SPACE4 CO-WORKING TABLE SYSTEM
We were commissioned by Studio Weave to create tables that could fit together, be taken apart and easily stored for the arrival space in Finsbury’s Park’s local social enterprise co-working building, Space4.
We created a modular system whereby the tables would fit together around a central pillar for more communal work, or pulled apart to be used as individual desks. The space needed to accommodate hybrid work-play activities – from meetings and deep-work to workshops and talks. Taking our approach of designing with both assembly and disassembly in mind, the legs can be easily removed from each table and stacked in the racking system against the wall so the room can be quickly transformed from working environment to event space. The base of the racking system serves as a bench with storage underneath to maximise space in the room.
As the first entry point of the building and a place where people commune, gather and eat together, we wanted this arrival space to feel comforting and inviting; for this we used a mix of ash-faced plywood and solid ash – sourced from local London timber supplier, Fallen & Felled – for the tables, the racking system and the wooden-clad walls. The softer details of cork at the base of the racks and the boards line some of the walls (to be used as a communal noticeboard) create an extra layer of visual warmth.
This project was funded by Islington Council, who were allocating funds to local businesses to help improve their workspaces.
